In the area East of Shamshabari Ranges at Marsari Sabu at an altitude of 12000 feet, rugged & in snow covered terrain intensive operations in poor visibility conditions, in high velocity winds & heavy snowfall was carved out for over 24 hours.
On the night of 26th May, after having observed the movement of a group of heavily armed terrorists, Havildar JD Hangpandade, who was the post commander led his team to close in with the terrorists. In spite of his party being pinned down by prophylactic fire, he used his ingenuity to make a short hook and killed a terrorist. The second terrorist opened indiscriminate fire to stop rest of the team from advancing. As commander of the party he regained control and closed in to eliminate the second terrorist as well. He then volunteered to lead further search where one terrorist was firing from behind the boulders. Braving all odds of extremely harsh weather and difficult terrain, he moved and charged ahead regardless of his personal safety to eliminate the third terrorist. Another terrorist who was hiding in a shallow cave engaged him causing fatal injury. The fourth terrorist was later eliminated after relentless fire fight by rest of the group.
The brave heart belongs to Tirap District of Arunachal Pradesh and is survived by his wife and two children.
