RM Parrikar Praises HAL For Timely Defence Production | Aero India-2017 | Full Press Conference

Raksha Mantri Manohar Parrikar holds joint press conference with Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapathi Raju during Aero India 2017. Minister Parrikar praised Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) for timely defence production. He said that "the two ministries are involved in joint aeronautical industry development. 1000 aircrafts required in next 10-15 years in civil aviation sector. 300- 400 fighter jets required with another 2000 helicopters required by India". This year Civil Aviation Ministry's India Aviation is clubbed with Defence Ministry's Aero India and both ministries jointly hold the show in Bangaluru this year. 

He emphaised on the need of jointness for the boom of Aviation sector. "Aviation Sector itself can boom if we both come together. Helicopter engine requirement itself is more than 5,000 engines in next 10 years for new as well as replacement. Its a huge market. LCA engine requirement itself will be 123 into 3 or 4 over the period of next 10 years because each engine has its life and need to be replaced after sometime". "So all these aspect opens huge potential for Indian companies because Government has made it very clear that IDDM is important". 

Raksha Mantri Parrikar also clarified on deplay in some procurement projects. "Off course, Sometimes people may think that things are not moving fast but defence is a difficult area for movement and earlier acquisitions inspite of all efforts do take sometime because they are based on earlier DPP and they can not be shifted to the new DPP."
