Dr. Subhash Bhamare took charge of Minister of State For
Defence at south block today at 12:30 pm. Soon after taking charge, his supporters greeted him in his new office. He met
defence officials and asked Services to
give detailed brief on their activities and operations.
Subhash Ramrao Bhamare, a renowned oncologist said, “he
would be highly interested in knowing about how the military maintains its
health”. Dr. Bhamare has replaced Rao Inderjit Singh as the MoS Defence in cabinet rejig by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Rao
Inderjit Singh has been assigned the MoS charge for Planning (Independent
Charge) and Urban Development Housing and Urban Poverty Alleviation.
Dr. Bhamre, 63, an
oncologist and a first-time lawmaker from Dhule, Maharashtra, was among the
'non-political' personalities fielded by BJP in 2014 elections and registered a
convincing victory over Amrish Patel of Congress.
Dr. Bhamre is known for offering free treatment to economically
weaker cancer patients. He has been a
Member of several parliamentary committees, including the Standing Committee on
Health and Family Welfare, the Consultative Committee of the Ministry of
Railways and the Committee on the Welfare of Other Backward Classes.
