Dr Wang Hanling: South China Sea Verdict was NOT by Permanent Court of Arbitration or UNCLAWS

Dr Wang Hanling, Director, National Centre for Ocean Affairs, CASS, China says "Verdict on South China Sea was not of PCA (Permanent Court of Arbitration) or of UNCLAWS". "It was unilaterally set up by Philippines without the consent of China". Dr. Wang was responding to the question of Vice Admiral (R) Anup Singh, Former C-in-C (East), Indian Navy during Annual Maritime Power Conference-2017 on Blue Economy organised by NMF at IDSA.

"China in 2006 like India submitted to UN Gen Secretary  that China can not accept any third party ruling. It was not a purely legal but political driven."  "After the ruling even Philippine President set it aside and choose to cooperate with China". Regarding Coral Reefs, he asked how China can cooperate alone. Dr Wang also added that Modi Government is very wise to choose to join China's initiative of AIIB. (Aisan Infrastructure Investment Bank).
